Takklemaggot

Enchantment - Aura, 2BB (4)
Enchant creature
At the beginning of the upkeep of enchanted creature's controller, put a -0/-1 counter on that creature.
When enchanted creature is put into a graveyard, that creature's controller chooses a creature that Takklemaggot could enchant. If he or she does, return Takklemaggot to the battlefield under your control attached to that creature. If he or she doesn't, return Takklemaggot to the battlefield under your control as a non-Aura enchantment. It loses "enchant creature" and gains "At the beginning of that player's upkeep, Takklemaggot deals 1 damage to him or her."
1
Illus. Daniel Gelon

Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]

  • 10/4/2004: If the creature leaves play without going to the graveyard, Takklemaggot is simply put into its owner's graveyard.
  • 5/1/2008: The controller of the creature which is destroyed chooses which creature it will enchant after returning to play. If there are no legal choices, then Takklemaggot returns to play as a non-Aura enchantment.
  • 5/1/2008: The new creature is chosen, and Takklemaggot is put on that creature all during the resolution of the triggered ability.
  • 5/1/2008: Takklemaggot's controller no longer changes as it returns to play. The player who controlled it when it left play is the same player that controls it when it returns to play, even though a different player may be choosing what it will be attached to after returning into play.

The Fallen

Creature - Zombie 2/3, 1BBB (4)
At the beginning of your upkeep, The Fallen deals 1 damage to each opponent it has dealt damage to this game.1
Magic often masters those who cannot master it.
Illus. Jesper Myrfors

Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]

  • 10/4/2004: It stops damaging players and forgets which players it damaged when it leaves the battlefield.
  • 9/16/2007: If The Fallen phases out and back in, it remembers which players it has dealt damage to this game.
  • 9/16/2007: The Fallen's ability causes it to deal damage only to opponents of its current controller. If The Fallen has dealt damage to you, and then you gain control of it, you won't be damaged during your upkeep.
  • 9/16/2007: The effect isn't cumulative. When it resolves, The Fallen deals 1 damage to each opponent previously dealt damage by it, regardless of how many times The Fallen dealt damage to that opponent before.

The Wretched

Creature - Demon 2/5, 3BB (5)
At end of combat, gain control of all creatures blocking The Wretched for as long as you control The Wretched.1
Illus. Christopher Rush

Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]

  • 10/4/2004: It affects creatures currently being blocked by this card at the end of combat and not ones that might have been removed before then.
  • 10/4/2004: If The Wretched blocks and regenerates, it is removed from combat, so The Wretched will not be blocking anything at the end of combat. This means there will be no creatures blocking it when the triggered ability resolves and so the ability does nothing.

Transmutation

Instant, 1B (2)
Switch target creature's power and toughness until end of turn.1
"You know what I was,/ You see what I am: change me, change me!" -Randall Jarrell, The Woman at the Washington Zoo
Illus. Susan Van Camp

Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]

  • 11/1/2005: Note that the wording "Effects that alter the creature's power alter its toughness instead, and vice versa, this turn" has been removed.
  • 10/1/2009: When figuring a creature's power and toughness, apply effects in a series of sublayers in the following order: (a) effects from characteristic-defining abilities; (b) effects that set power and/or toughness to a specific number or value; (c) effects that modify power and/or toughness but don't set power and/or toughness to a specific number or value; (d) changes from counters; (e) effects that switch a creature's power and toughness. This means that effects that switch power and toughness are always applied last when determining a creature's power and toughness, even if other power/toughness-changing effects are created later in the turn.

Wall of Shadows

Creature - Wall 0/1, 1BB (3)
Defender (This creature can't attack.)
Prevent all damage that would be dealt to Wall of Shadows by creatures it's blocking.
Wall of Shadows can't be the target of spells that can target only Walls or of abilities that can target only Walls.
1
Illus. Pete Venters

Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]

  • 10/4/2004: The Chronicles vesion of this card was printed with the wrong expansion symbol. That version of this card has errata to replace that symbol with a Legends symbol.
  • 10/4/2004: Can be targeted by a modal spell that can target a non-Wall in one of its modes, even if it has a mode that targets only Walls. That spell can, in theory, target a non-Wall, so it is not a "spell that can target only walls".

Dance of Many

Enchantment, UU (2)
When Dance of Many enters the battlefield, put a token that's a copy of target nontoken creature onto the battlefield.
When Dance of Many leaves the battlefield, exile the token.
When the token leaves the battlefield, sacrifice Dance of Many.
At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice Dance of Many unless you pay {U}{U}.
1
Illus. Sandra Everingham

Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]

  • 10/4/2004: Destroying the creature that was copied will not cause the token creature to be destroyed as well.
  • 10/4/2004: The "remove from game" triggered abilities are on Dance of Many and not from the token. If Dance of Many loses its abilities, removing one from play won't destroy the other.
  • 10/4/2004: Each Dance of Many is associated only with its token creature. If one leaves play, only the corresponding token is affect, not all tokens from all instances of Dance of Many.
  • 10/4/2004: The ability is targeted and checks the validity of the target when declared and when resolving. If the creature is not still there when the copy resolves, the copy ability is countered and no token is put into play. This card remains in play as a global enchantment with no token.
  • 10/4/2004: The mana cost is copied. This makes Dance of Many the exception to the rule that token creatures have a mana cost of zero.
  • 10/4/2004: Treat the token as coming into play as a copy of the chosen creature. If that creature normally gets counters when played, the token creature gets counters.
