Creature - Djinn Trample At the beginning of your upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature each opponent controls.1

, 1BB (3)
Illus. Cliff Nielsen
Enchantment Each land is a Swamp in addition to its other land types.1
Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]
- 10/4/2004: The land can now be tapped for black mana in addition to any other abilities it already has. This works just as if the text "{Tap}: Add {B} to your mana pool" was added to each mana-producing land. In other words, the land can be tapped for its own ability _or_ it can be tapped for black mana. Not both.
- 10/4/2004: Whether the land is a basic land or not is unchanged by this effect.
- 10/4/2004: More than one Blanket of Night has no meaningful additional effect.
- 10/4/2004: Anything which counts the number of Swamps on the battlefield will not double count an actual Swamp card while Blanket of Night is on the battlefield.
- 10/4/2004: It can affect lands which do not produce mana.
- 10/4/2004: The lands do not get the name "Swamp" in addition to their current name. This is a reversal of older rulings.
- 10/4/2004: The ability is a land type change effect so it is ordered along with other land type change effects in the order they entered the battlefield.
- 10/15/2006: If this effect is applied to a Snow land, the land is now a Snow Swamp and not just a regular Swamp.

Creature - Insect When Brood of Cockroaches is put into your graveyard from the battlefield, at the beginning of the next end step, you lose 1 life and return Brood of Cockroaches to your hand.1
Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]
- 10/4/2004: The loss of life is not optional.
- 10/4/2004: The life loss and the return to hand both happen at the beginning of the end step as a single effect. It is not two separate effects.

Enchantment At the beginning of the end step, each player who tapped a land for mana this turn sacrifices a land. If a Plains is sacrificed this way, Desolation deals 2 damage to that Plains's controller.1
Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]
- 10/4/2004: It works even if it was not on the battlefield when the land was tapped for mana.
- 10/4/2004: Each Desolation only causes up to one land per turn to be sacrificed. If you have more than one, each will do this.

2/2, 1B (2)
Illus. Adrian Smith
Creature - Human Knight Flanking (Whenever a creature without flanking blocks this creature, the blocking creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.) Fallen Askari can't block.1
Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]
- 10/4/2004: This creature can't be given the ability to block, even if it's enchanted by an Aura that says "Enchanted creature can block as though it had flying". Those abilities do not remove the general inability to block.

Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]
- 10/4/2004: The return of X of your Swamps to your hand is part of the cost and is paid on casting. You do not have a choice to pay this cost zero times or more than one time in order to multiply the effect.
- 10/4/2004: You can use X as being zero.
- 10/4/2004: If X is greater than zero, you can't choose zero targets. You must choose between 1 and X targets. If X is zero, you can't choose any targets.

- 10/4/2004: The sacrifice of all your permanents and discarding of your hand is part of the cost and is paid on casting. You do not have a choice to pay this cost zero times or more than one time in order to multiply the effect.

, 2B (3)
Illus. Pete Venters
Enchantment You may cast Necromancy as though it had flash. If you cast it any time a sorcery couldn't have been cast, the controller of the permanent it becomes sacrifices it at the beginning of the next cleanup step. When Necromancy enters the battlefield, if it's on the battlefield, it becomes an Aura with "enchant creature put onto the battlefield with Necromancy." Put target creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control and attach Necromancy to it. When Necromancy leaves the battlefield, that creature's controller sacrifices it.1
Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]
- 10/4/2004: The bringing of the creature onto the battlefield and then putting Necromancy on it is all done as part of the resolution.
- 10/4/2004: When putting a card onto the battlefield that requires a definition for its value or some other choice, you do what is needed to define the value or make the choice.
- 8/1/2005: enters the battlefield as a global enchantment and then becomes an Enchant Creature Aura as a triggered ability upon entering the battlefield. It follows all the rules for Auras from then on.
- 4/1/2008: If the creature card put onto the battlefield has Protection from Black (or anything that prevents this from legally being attached), this won’t be able to attach to it. Then this will go to the graveyard as a State-Based Action, causing the creature to be sacrificed. This is a change from recent functionality.
- 10/1/2009: The sacrifice occur only if you cast it using its own ability. If you cast it using some other effect (for instance, if it gained flash from Vedalken Orrery), then it won't be sacrificed.

, 2BB (4)
Illus. Terese Nielsen
World Enchantment At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player may sacrifice a creature. If that player doesn't, he or she loses 5 life and you sacrifice Pillar Tombs of Aku.1
Gatherer Card Rulings [Nov 2009]
- 10/1/2008: This has the supertype world. This supertype is similar to legendary. The difference is that when a world permanent enters the battlefield, any world permanents that were already on the battlefield are put into their owners' graveyards. This is a state-based action called the "world rule." The new world permanent stays on the battlefield. If two world permanents enter the battlefield at the same time, they're both put into their owners' graveyards.
