Æther Searcher Æther Searcher English

Artifact Creature — Construct 6/4, 7 (7)

Reveal Æther Searcher as you draft it. Reveal the next card you draft and note its name.

When Æther Searcher enters the battlefield, you may search your hand and/or library for a card with a name noted as you drafted cards named Æther Searcher. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. If you searched your library this way, shuffle it.

Illus. James Paick

  • 5/29/2014: When casting a card this way, ignore timing restrictions based on the card’s type. Other timing restrictions, such as “Cast [this spell] only during combat,” must be followed.
  • 5/29/2014: If you cast a card “without paying its mana cost,” you can’t pay alternative costs such as overload costs. You can pay additional costs such as kicker costs. If the card has mandatory additional costs, you must pay those.
  • 5/29/2014: If the card has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as its value.
  • 5/29/2014: If Æther Searcher leaves the battlefield before its ability resolves, you’ll still be able to search for the named card and cast it.

  • 5/29/2014: If Æther Searcher is the last card you draft, there won’t be a noted name. You can still search your hand and/or library when it enters the battlefield, but you won’t cast any card this way unless you also drafted an Æther Searcher and noted a card then.
  • 5/29/2014: If an Æther Searcher owned by another player enters the battlefield under your control, you can search for a card you’ve named while drafting a card named Æther Searcher, not a card named by its owner. Unless you also drafted a card named Æther Searcher, you won’t cast a card.
  • 5/29/2014: You cast the card before shuffling your library (if it was searched). In some very rare cases, you may need to take actions involving your library while casting the card. For example, if it has an additional cost and you activate Deranged Assistant’s ability (“{tap}, Put the top card of your library into your graveyard: Add {C} to your mana pool.”) to pay for it, you must maintain the order of your library while you search it.

"Supplies inbound. Keep that pressure on."

Illus. Greg Opalinski

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 2/9/2017: Revolt abilities check only whether a permanent you controlled left the battlefield this turn or not. They don’t apply multiple times if more than one permanent you controlled left the battlefield. They don’t check whether the permanent that left the battlefield is still in the zone it moved to.
  • 2/9/2017: Revolt abilities don’t care why the permanent left the battlefield, who caused it to move, or where it moved to. They’re equally satisfied by an artifact you sacrificed to pay a cost, a creature you controlled that was destroyed by Murder, or an enchantment you returned to your hand with Leave in the Dust.
  • 2/9/2017: Tokens that leave the battlefield will satisfy a revolt ability.
  • 2/9/2017: Energy counters aren’t permanents. Paying {e} won’t satisfy a revolt ability.
  • 2/9/2017: All cards in the Aether Revolt set with triggered revolt abilities use an intervening “if” clause. A permanent you controlled must have left the battlefield earlier in the turn in order for these abilities to trigger; otherwise they do nothing.
