Scythe Specter Scythe Specter English

Creature — Specter 4/4, 4BB (6)

Flying

Whenever Scythe Specter deals combat damage to a player, each opponent discards a card. Each player who discarded a card with the highest converted mana cost among cards discarded this way loses life equal to that converted mana cost.

Illus. Vincent Proce

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 9/22/2011: Each opponent in turn order chooses a card to discard without revealing it, then all the chosen cards are discarded simultaneously. No one sees what the other players are discarding before deciding which card to discard.
  • 9/22/2011: If there are multiple cards tied for the highest converted mana cost, each player who discarded one of those cards will lose life equal to that converted mana cost.
  • 9/22/2011: If an opponent discards a split card, each side will be considered separately. For example, if the first opponent discards Wax/Wane (a split card with converted mana costs 1 and 1), a second opponent discards Giant Growth (converted mana cost 1), and all other opponents discard land cards, the first and second opponents each lose 1 life.
  • 9/22/2011: If Scythe Specter deals combat damage to multiple players simultaneously (perhaps because some of the combat damage was redirected to another player), its ability will trigger for each of those players.
  • 9/22/2011: In a Two-Headed Giant game, each member of the opposing team will be able to see the other's hand before deciding what to discard. If each member discards a card with the same converted mana cost, each player will lose that much life, resulting in the team losing life equal to twice that converted mana cost.

Squeaking Pie Grubfellows Squeaking Pie Grubfellows English

Creature — Goblin Shaman 3/2, 3B (4)

Kinship — At the beginning of your upkeep, you may look at the top card of your library. If it shares a creature type with Squeaking Pie Grubfellows, you may reveal it. If you do, each opponent discards a card.

Illus. Jim Pavelec

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 4/1/2008: Kinship is an ability word that indicates a group of similar triggered abilities that appear on _Morningtide_ creatures. It doesn't have any special rules associated with it.
  • 4/1/2008: The first two sentences of every kinship ability are the same (except for the creature's name). Only the last sentence varies from one kinship ability to the next.
  • 4/1/2008: You don't have to reveal the top card of your library, even if it shares a creature type with the creature that has the kinship ability.
  • 4/1/2008: After the kinship ability finishes resolving, the card you looked at remains on top of your library.
  • 4/1/2008: If you have multiple creatures with kinship abilities, each triggers and resolves separately. You'll look at the same card for each one, unless you have some method of shuffling your library or moving that card to a different zone.
  • 4/1/2008: If the top card of your library is already revealed (due to Magus of the Future, for example), you still have the option to reveal it or not as part of a kinship ability's effect.
