Cytoshape Cytoshape English

Instant, 1UG (3)

Choose a nonlegendary creature on the battlefield. Target creature becomes a copy of that creature until end of turn.

"Though highly effective at reshaping flesh, these specially bred cytoplasts leave the subject reeking of omnibian mucus."
—Simic research notes

Illus. Alan Pollack

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 5/1/2006: Only the creature that's becoming a copy is targeted. The creature that it will copy isn't chosen until Cytoshape resolves.
  • 5/1/2006: The creature copies the printed values of the chosen creature, plus any copy effects that have been applied to it. It won't copy counters on that creature. It won't copy effects that have changed the creature's power, toughness, types, color, or so on.
  • 5/1/2006: If the creature copies a creature that's copying a creature, it will become whatever the chosen creature is copying.
  • 5/1/2006: If the creature becomes a copy of a face-down creature, it will become a 2/2 creature with no name, creature type, abilities, mana cost, or color. It will not become face-down and thus can't be turned face up.
  • 5/1/2006: This effect can cause the target to stop being a creature. For example, if it becomes a copy of an animated Blinkmoth Nexus, the printed wording will be copied and it will become an unanimated Blinkmoth Nexus.
  • 5/1/2006: Effects that have already applied to the target creature will continue to apply to it. For example, if Giant Growth had given it +3/+3 earlier in the turn, then Cytoshape makes it a copy of Grizzly Bears, it will be a 5/5 Grizzly Bears.
  • 5/1/2006: A creature may become a copy of itself this way. This generally won't have any visible effect.
  • 5/1/2006: At the end of the turn, the creature reverts to what it was before. If two Cytoshapes affect the same creature on the same turn, they'll both wear off at the same time.

—Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Illus. Eric Deschamps

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 8/15/2010: Diminish overwrites all previous effects that set the targeted creature's power and toughness to specific values. Other effects that set its power or toughness to specific values that start to apply after Diminish resolves will overwrite this effect.
  • 8/15/2010: Effects that modify the targeted creature's power or toughness, such as the effects of Giant Growth or Honor of the Pure, will apply to it no matter when they started to take effect. The same is true for counters that change the creature's power or toughness (such as +1/+1 counters) and effects that switch its power and toughness.

Instant, R (1)

Target creature becomes red until end of turn and attacks this turn if able.

The veneer of rationality peeled from the mage, revealing the spite and rage beneath.

Illus. Scott Chou

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 8/15/2010: Incite overwrites all of the targeted creature's old colors, leaving it just red. It doesn't matter what colors it used to be (even if, for example, it used to be red and green).
  • 8/15/2010: You may target any creature with Incite. It's okay if that creature is already red. It's also okay if it would be unable to attack that turn.
  • 8/15/2010: If, during its controller's declare attackers step, a creature affected by Incite is tapped, is affected by a spell or ability that says it can't attack, or is affected by "summoning sickness," then that creature doesn't attack. If there's a cost associated with having that creature attack, its controller isn't forced to pay that cost, so the creature doesn't have to attack in that case either.
  • 8/15/2010: If there are multiple combat phases in a turn, a creature affected by Incite must attack only in the first one in which it's able to.

Neurok Transmuter Neurok Transmuter English

Creature — Human Wizard 2/2, 2U (3)

{U}: Target creature becomes an artifact in addition to its other types until end of turn.

{U}: Until end of turn, target artifact creature becomes blue and isn't an artifact.

Illus. Mark Zug

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 12/1/2004: Neurok Transmuter's second ability removes the type "artifact" -- and any artifact subtypes -- from the artifact creature it targets. It doesn't remove any other types or any subtypes of other types, and it doesn't remove supertypes. If the artifact was legendary, it's still legendary, and the "Legend rule" applies normally.
  • 12/1/2004: Equipment that stops being an artifact loses the subtype "Equipment." Permanents without the subtype Equipment can't equip creatures. Of course, artifact creatures can't equip anything either.
  • 12/1/2004: Neurok Transmuter's second ability interacts strangely with March of the Machines from the Mirrodin set. If an artifact is an artifact creature only because March of the Machines is on the battlefield and you then activate Neurok Transmuter's second ability on that artifact creature, the result is a permanent with no types whatsoever. Neurok Transmuter's ability removes the type "artifact." March of the Machines depends on knowing what is and isn't an artifact. The permanent won't be an artifact when March of the Machine's effect is applied and therefore it won't be turned into a creature.
