Antiquities

→ Checklist → Cards

1. Amulet of Kroog

Mono Artifact 2 (2) Antiquities (Common)
{2}: Prevent 1 damage to any target.

2. Armageddon Clock

Continuous Artifact 6 (6) Antiquities (Uncommon)
Put one counter on Armageddon Clock during each of your upkeeps. At the end of your upkeep, each player takes damage equal to the number of counters on the Clock. Any player may spend {4} during any upkeep to remove a counter.
  • Players can remove as many counters as they can pay for each turn. [D'Angelo 2000/02/25]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.

3. Ashnod's Altar

Poly Artifact 3 (3) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{0}: Sacrifice one of your creatures to add 2 colorless mana to your mana pool. This effect is played as an interrupt. You may not sacrifice a creature that is already on its way to the graveyard.

4. Ashnod's Battle Gear

Mono Artifact 2 (2) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{2}: Give a creature of yours +2/-2 as long as Ashnod's Battle Gear is tapped. You may choose not to untap Ashnod's Battle Gear during untap phase.
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.

5. Ashnod's Transmogrant

Mono Artifact 1 (1) Antiquities (Uncommon)
Target non-artifact creature gains +1/+1 and is now considered an artifact creature, though it retains its original color. Discard Ashnod's Transmogrant after it is used.
  • The counter only gives the +1/+1. The artifactness is a permanent change not associated with the counter. [Aahz 1997/08/22] So if the counter is moved off of the creature the artifact nature stays.
  • Note - Also see Changing a Permanent's Type, Rule 212.1c.

6. Battering Ram

Artifact Creature 1/1 2 (2) Antiquities (Common)
Bands, but only when attacking.
Any wall blocking Battering Ram is destroyed. Walls destroyed in this way deal their damage before dying.

7. Bronze Tablet

Mono Artifact 6 (6) Antiquities (Rare)
{4}: Target any card opponent has in play; remove it and Bronze Tablet from game. You become owner of that card, and your opponent becomes owner of Bronze Tablet. Exchange is permanent; play as interrupt. Opponent can prevent exchange by spending 10 life; this discards Bronze Tablet. Damage-preventing effects cannot counter such loss of life. Bronze Tablet comes into play tapped. Remove this card from deck before playing if not playing for ante.
  • Cannot choose to lose 10 life if you have less than 10 life, but you may choose to give up the game immediately. This has roughly the same effect. [D'Angelo 1994/06/01]
  • If the card being targeted by the Bronze Tablet is removed before Tablet takes effect, then the Tablet ability is countered and it remains tapped. [D'Angelo 2001/08/31]
  • If the tablet is not still in play when the ability resolves, it is not removed from the game, and the exchange fails to happen. You don't get the other player's card. [D'Angelo 2001/08/31]
  • If using a Copy Artifact of the Tablet, you must trade the Copy Artifact card to your opponent just like you would have traded the Tablet. [bethmo 1994/08/01]
  • You can take control of your opponent's Tablet and in the trade you only have to give them back their Tablet. [Duelist Magazine #2, Page 15]
  • Vintage tournaments (see Rule 801) have banned this card since 1994/05/02.
  • Legacy tournaments (see Rule 802) have always banned this card.
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Standard (Type 2) tournaments (see Rule 804) have always banned this card.

8. Candelabra of Tawnos

Mono Artifact 1 (1) Antiquities (Rare)
{X}: Untap X separate lands.
  • This is not mana ability. It is a normal ability and it will resolve along with other spells and abilities in its stack. The lands untap during resolution. [D'Angelo 2000/02/25]
  • You may untap your opponent's lands if desired. [Aahz 1994/05/03] This can be useful if Power Surge is in play.
  • Can be used on an untapped land. [Duelist Magazine #5, Page 22]
  • Vintage tournaments (see Rule 801) restricted this card from 1994/05/02 until 1997/10/01.
  • Legacy tournaments (see Rule 802) banned this card until 1999/04/01.
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Standard (Type 2) tournaments (see Rule 804) have always banned this card.
  • Note - The card type is "Artifact" and not "Mono Artifact". [Oracle 1998/07/01]

9. Clay Statue

Artifact Creature 3/1 4 (4) Antiquities (Common)
{2}: Regenerates
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Golem".

10. Clockwork Avian

Artifact Creature 0/4 5 (5) Antiquities (Rare)
Flying
Put four +1/+0 counters on Avian. After Avian attacks or blocks a creature, discard a counter. During his or her upkeep, controller may buy back lost counters for {1} per counter; this taps Avian.
  • See Clockwork Beast for rulings.
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Bird".

11. Colossus of Sardia

Artifact Creature 9/9 9 (9) Antiquities (Rare)
Trample
Colossus does not untap normally during untap phase; you may spend {9} during your upkeep phase to untap Colossus.

12. Coral Helm

Poly Artifact 3 (3) Antiquities (Rare)
{3}: Give target creature +2/+2 until end of turn. Each time you use this ability, you must discard one card at random from your hand. Coral Helm cannot be used if you have no cards in your hand.
  • The cards are discarded from your hand during announcement and as a cost. [Duelist Magazine #11, Page 56]

13. Cursed Rack

Continuous Artifact 4 (4) Antiquities (Uncommon)
Opponent must discards down to four cards during his or her discard phase.
  • The effect of lowering the maximum hand size makes it so the player discards down to 4 cards (instead of the usual 7) during the cleanup step. [D'Angelo 2000/02/25]
  • You choose one opposing player just as this card is coming into play and it only affects that one player. This choice is not changed even if this card changes controllers. It becomes useless but stays in play if the target player leaves play. [D'Angelo 2001/08/31]
  • If multiple effects modify your hand size limit, apply them in the order they enter play. For example, if both this and Recycle are in play, the most recent in play decides your hand size. [D'Angelo 2001/05/21]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.

14. Dragon Engine

Artifact Creature 1/3 3 (3) Antiquities (Common)
{2}: +1/+0 until end of turn.
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/09/01, when it became "Construct".

15. Feldon's Cane

Mono Artifact 1 (1) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{0}: Reshuffle your graveyard into your library. If Feldon's Cane is used, remove it from the game, returning it to its owner's deck only when the game is over.
  • Vintage tournaments (see Rule 801) restricted this card from 1994/05/02 until 1997/10/01. It is not currently banned or restricted.
  • Legacy tournaments (see Rule 802) banned this card until 1999/01/01. It is not currently banned or restricted.
  • Standard (Type 2) tournaments (see Rule 804) restricted this card from 1994/05/02 through 1996/04/01. It is not currently banned or restricted.

16. Golgothian Sylex

Mono Artifact 4 (4) Antiquities (Rare)
{1}: All cards from the Antiquities expansion, including Golgothian Sylex, must be discarded from play.
  • Only affects cards with the Antiquities anvil symbol on them. It does not affect cards that came from the Antiquities expansion into the main set. [bethmo 1994/06/04]
  • It does affect cards from Chronicles with the anvil symbol. [Duelist Magazine #7, Page 98] This does not include the Wall of Shadows from Chronicles with an anvil symbol on it. That card has errata to replace that symbol with a Legends symbol. [Duelist Magazine #7, Page 98]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - The card type is "Artifact" and not "Mono Artifact". [Oracle 1998/07/01]

17. Grapeshot Catapult

Artifact Creature 2/3 4 (4) Antiquities (Common)
Tap to deal 1 damage to target flying creature.
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Construct".

18. Ivory Tower

Continuous Artifact 1 (1) Antiquities (Uncommon)
During your upkeep phase, gain 1 life for each card in your hand above four.
  • The amount of life is determined when effect is resolved and not when it is announced. [D'Angelo 1995/10/05]
  • If the total is less than zero, you neither gain nor lose life. [D'Angelo 2001/08/31]
  • Vintage tournaments (see Rule 801) restricted this card from 1994/05/02 until 1999/10/01.
  • Legacy tournaments (see Rule 802) banned this card until 1999/10/01.
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Standard (Type 2) tournaments (see Rule 804) have banned this card since 1997/01/01. Previously it was restricted since this format was created.

19. Jalum Tome

Mono Artifact 3 (3) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{2}: Draw a card from your library, then immediately discard a card of your choice to your graveyard.

20. Mightstone

Continuous Artifact 4 (4) Antiquities (Uncommon)
All attacking creatures gain +1/+0.
  • The +1/+0 applies to attacking creatures from all players. [Aahz 1994/06/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - The card type is "Artifact" and not "Continuous Artifact". [Oracle 1998/07/01]

21. Millstone

Mono Artifact 2 (2) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{2}: Take the top two cards from target player's library and put them in target player's graveyard.
  • Library of Leng has no effect on the Millstone because cards are moved to the graveyard. They are not "discarded". [bethmo 1994/10/01]
  • Can be used on a player with less than 2 cards in their library. It will remove 0 or 1 cards if that is all that is available. [Duelist Magazine #6, Page 130]
  • It is not a draw effect so it will not cause a player with less than 2 cards in their library to lose. [Duelist Magazine #6, Page 130]
  • Since you are putting more than one card in the graveyard at one time, the affected player can choose the order the 2 cards go in. [Aahz 1997/11/17]

22. Mishra's War Machine

Artifact Creature 5/5 7 (7) Antiquities (Rare)
Bands
During your upkeep, discard one card of your choice from your hand, or Mishra's War Machine becomes tapped and does 3 points of damage to you.
  • You may choose to take damage or to discard. You cannot avoid taking damage if you have no cards to discard. [bethmo 1994/06/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.
  • Note - Also see Banding, Rule 502.10.
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Juggernaut".

24. Onulet

Artifact Creature 2/2 3 (3) Antiquities (Uncommon)
If Onulet is put into the graveyard, its controller gains 2 life.
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.
  • Note - The incorrect artist is listed on the Revised Edition card. It should be Anson Maddocks. [Duelist Magazine #4, Page 138]
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/09/01 when it became "Construct".

25. Ornithopter

Artifact Creature 0/2 0 (0) Antiquities (Common)
Flying
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Ninth Edition and Oracle 2005/08/01.

26. Primal Clay

Artifact Creature X/X 4 (4) Antiquities (Uncommon)
When you cast Primal Clay, you must choose whether to make it a 1/6 wall, a 3/3 creature, or a 2/2 flying creature. Primal Clay then remains in this form until altered by another card or removed from play.
  • The form is chosen when this card comes into play. [D'Angelo 2000/12/07]
  • A Clone or Vesuvan Doppelganger of this card which is entering play may not choose a different form than the original. [WotC Rules Team 1998/03/31]
  • If put into play by a means other than casting it, you choose the form right before it comes into play. [WotC Rules Team 1998/02/01]
  • Note - Also see Defender, Rule 502.41.
  • Note - Also see Walls, Rule G23.1.
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Shapeshifter".

27. Rakalite

Poly Artifact 6 (6) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{2}: Prevent 1 damage to any target. If Rakalite is used, it returns to its owner's hand at end of turn; all enchantments on Rakalite are then discarded.
  • Only returns to your hand if it is still in play at the end of the turn. If it leaves play, it does not return. [bethmo 1994/05/01]
  • Can be used any number of times during the turn before it leaves play. [D'Angelo 1994/06/01]
  • Can choose a different creature or player for each use. [D'Angelo 1994/06/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.
  • Note - It is of type Artifact, not Poly Artifact. [Oracle 1998/07/01]

28. Rocket Launcher

Poly Artifact 4 (4) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{2}: Do 1 damage to any target. Rocket Launcher may not be used until it begins a turn in play on your side. If it is used, Rocket Launcher is destroyed at end of turn.
  • Because it does not have tapping as part of its activation cost, you can power it many times in one turn, but it is destroyed at the end of any turn in which you use it. [D'Angelo 1994/06/01]
  • You can choose different targets for each use. [bethmo 1994/05/01]
  • It is only sacrificed at end of turn if it is successfully used. If the ability is countered, it is not sacrificed. [Aahz 1997/06/12]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.

29. Shapeshifter

Artifact Creature X/7-X 6 (6) Antiquities (Rare)
The *s below represent any number from 0 to 6. You set * when Shapeshifter is cast, and you may change it during your upkeep.
  • The power/toughness change is a triggered ability that occurs only once each upkeep. [D'Angelo 2000/02/25]
  • The change affects the initial power/toughness, not the current power/toughness. [D'Angelo 1998/06/05]
  • If it begins upkeep with power of 2 or less, the Dwarven Warriors may be tapped to make it unblockable before you change the Shapeshifter to be a 6/1 creature. [Aahz 1994/06/01]
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Shapeshifter".

30. Staff of Zegon

{3}: Target creature loses -2/-0 until end of turn. Creatures with power less than 1 deal no damage.

If Su-Chi goes to the graveyard, its controller gains 4 colorless mana.
  • It does not do anything if discarded or countered. [D'Angelo 1994/06/01]
  • You cannot choose not to get the 4 mana when Su-Chi is destroyed. [D'Angelo 1994/06/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/09/01 when it became "Construct".

32. Tablet of Epityr

Poly Artifact 1 (1) Antiquities (Common)
{1}: You gain 1 life every time one of your artifacts goes to the graveyard. Can only give 1 life each time an artifact reaches the graveyard.
  • Can be used on itself. It can trigger on its own death just like an animated Soul Net can. [D'Angelo 1996/10/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - It is of type "Artifact" and not "Poly Artifact". [Oracle 1998/07/01]

33. Tawnos's Coffin

Mono Artifact 4 (4) Antiquities (Rare)
{3}: Select a creature in play; that creature is considered out of play as long as Coffin remains tapped. Hence the creature cannot be the target of spells and cannot receive damage, use special powers, attack, or defend. All counters and enchantments on the creature remain but are also out of play. If coffin is untapped or removed, creature returns to play tapped. You may choose not to untap coffin during the untap phase.
  • The card returns to play as a new permanent. [D'Angelo 2007/09/08]
  • The permanent does have summoning sickness after it returns. [D'Angelo 2007/09/08]
  • If the card was only a creature due to an effect, it may enter play as a non-creature since it enters play as if newly played. [D'Angelo 2007/09/08]
  • If an Aura cannot be attached to the permanent after it re-enters play because it would be illegal to do so, the Aura remains removed from the game. [D'Angelo 2007/09/08]
  • The creature returns to play tapped. It does not return to play and then tap afterwards. [WotC Rules Team 1997/06/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - Due to errata, it is of type "Artifact" and not "Mono Artifact".

34. Tawnos's Wand

Mono Artifact 4 (4) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{2}: Make a creature of power no greater than 2 unblockable by all creatures except artifact creatures until end of turn. Other cards may be used to increase target creature's power beyond 2 after defense is chosen.
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.
  • Note - The Antiquities version of this card made the creature blockable only by artifact creatures. Use the above text instead.

35. Tawnos's Weaponry

Mono Artifact 2 (2) Antiquities (Uncommon)
{2}: Target creature gains +1/+1 as long as Tawnos's Weaponry remains tapped. You may choose not to untap Tawnos's Weaponry during your untap phase.
  • Note - There is a variant of the Antiquities version of this card on which the generic mana circle is missing behind the activation cost.

36. Tetravus

Artifact Creature 1/1 6 (6) Antiquities (Rare)
Flying
Tetravus gets three +1/+1 counters when cast. During your upkeep, you may move each of these counters on or off of Tetravus. Counters moved off of Tetravus become independent 1/1 flying artifact creatures. If such a creature dies, the counter is removed from play. Such creatures may not have enchantments cast on them, and they do not share any enchantments on Tetravus.
  • You choose the order in which the two triggered abilities are put on the stack. So it's possible to order them so you can create Tetravite tokens then immediately convert them back into +1/+1 counters, or vice versa. [D'Angelo 2008/07/12]
  • A token creature gets summoning sickness (see Rule G19.39), so it cannot attack on the turn it enters play. [D'Angelo 1998/02/03]
  • If the Tetravus is destroyed when the Tetravites are off the card, they are not destroyed, they are just orphaned. [bethmo 1994/06/01]
  • Any +1/+1 counter which is on this card can be turned into a Tetravite token. It does not care where the +1/+1 counter came from. [WotC Rules Team 1998/03/01]
  • Only Tetravites from this specific Tetravus may be removed for the ability. Ones from a different Tetravus can't. [D'Angelo 2001/08/31]
  • A Clone of Tetravus does get the counters since this is done as it comes into play. A Vesuvan Doppelganger only gets tokens if it copies the Tetravus at the time it is played and not as a later doppel effect. [WotC Rules Team 1994/07/27]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.
  • Note - Also see Comes Into Play Abilities, Rule 410.10a.
  • Note - Also see Token Creatures, Rule 216.
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Construct".

37. The Rack

Continuous Artifact 1 (1) Antiquities (Uncommon)
If opponent has fewer than three cards in hand during his or her upkeep, the Rack does 1 damage to opponent for each card fewer than three.

  • Amount of damage is determined when effect is resolved and not when it is announced. [D'Angelo 1995/10/05]
  • No damage is done if X is zero or less. [D'Angelo 2001/08/31]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) banned this card from 1999/10/01 until 2006/10/20 when it became part of Time Spiral.

38. Triskelion

Artifact Creature 1/1 6 (6) Antiquities (Rare)
Triskelion gets three +1/+1 counters when cast. Controller may discard a +1/+1 counter at any time to do 1 damage to any target.
  • Counters are removed one at a time, so as soon as you remove one that causes its toughness to drop to the amount of damage it has, it is destroyed. [D'Angelo 1996/11/08]
  • Counters can be used on the turn it enters play because it does not require tapping. [bethmo 1994/06/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) banned this card from 1999/10/01 until 2003/10/19.
  • Note - This card had no creature type until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Construct".

Poly Artifact 1 (1) Antiquities (Common)
{1}: Any artifact cast by any player gives you 1 life. Can only give 1 life each time an artifact is cast.

{3}: Draw one card from your library every time an artifact of yours goes to the graveyard. Can only let you draw one card per artifact destruction. May not be used when you destroy an artifact to gain benefits from another card.
  • Can be used on itself because it can trigger on its own trip to the graveyard just like an animated Soul Net can. [D'Angelo 1996/10/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - It is of type Artifact, not Poly Artifact. [Oracle 1998/07/01]

Artifact Creature 2/3 3 (3) Antiquities (Uncommon)

43. Weakstone

Continuous Artifact 4 (4) Antiquities (Uncommon)
All attacking creatures lose -1/-0. Creatures with power less than 1 deal no damage.
  • The -1/-0 applies to attacking creatures from all players. [Aahz 1994/06/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - The card is of type "Artifact" and not "Continuous Artifact". [Oracle 1998/07/01]

44. Yotian Soldier

Artifact Creature 1/4 3 (3) Antiquities (Common)

  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) banned this card from 1999/10/01 until 2003/10/19.
  • Note - Also see Vigilance, Rule 502.14.
  • Note - The Antiquities and Fourth Edition versions of this card had no creature type. A creature type "Soldier" was added in Mirrodin.

Enchant Artifact 2B (3) Antiquities (Common)
Artifact Possession does 2 damage to target artifact's controller each time target artifact is tapped or its activation cost is paid. Has no effect if cast on a continuous artifact.
  • Triggered abilities are not "played" and so they won't trigger this card's ability. [DeLaney 2000/03/12]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - Also see Aura, Rule G1.30.
  • Note - This card was of type "Enchant Artifact" until Oracle 2005/08/01.

  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.

48. Phyrexian Gremlins

Summon Gremlins 1/1 2B (3) Antiquities (Common)
Tap Gremlins to tap an artifact. As long as Gremlins remain tapped and in play, that artifact does not untap as normal during its controller's untap phase. You may choose not to untap Gremlins during your untap phase.
  • Only prevents the artifact from untapping during untap step. Ones that untap during upkeep are not inhibited. [Aahz 1994/06/01]
  • Can target a tapped artifact. [Duelist Magazine #5, Page 22]
  • The target artifact cannot untap if the Gremlins and the artifact are tapped during untap, even if it is your artifact, and you plan on untapping the Gremlins. [Aahz 1994/06/06]
  • If the Gremlins somehow become an artifact and then tap themselves, they can never be untapped during the untap phase. They must be untapped by an external effect. [Aahz 1994/06/06]
  • The effect does not end if the target stops being valid. For example, if it stops being an artifact. [WotC Rules Team 1995/02/09]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - This card was creature type "Gremlin" until Oracle 2008/01/01, when it became "Ouphe".

49. Priest of Yawgmoth

Summon Cleric 1/2 1B (2) Antiquities (Common)
Tap to add an amount of black mana equal to target artifact's casting cost to your mana pool. This effect is played as an interrupt. Target artifact, which must belong to you, is discarded. This artifact cannot be one that is already on its way to the graveyard, and artifact creatures killed this way may not be regenerated.
  • Before errata, you had to both control and own the artifact. Now you just have to control it. [D'Angelo 2000/02/25]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - Also see Converted Mana Cost, Rule G3.29.
  • Note - This card was creature type "Cleric" until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Human Cleric".

50. Xenic Poltergeist

51. Yawgmoth Demon

Summon Demon 6/6 4BB (6) Antiquities (Rare)
Flying, first strike
During your upkeep, choose one of your artifacts in play and place it in the graveyard, or Yawgmoth Demon becomes tapped and deals 2 points of damage to you. Artifact creatures destroyed in this way may not be regenerated.
  • The sacrificing of an artifact is not mandatory. You can choose not to sacrifice an artifact but will pay the consequences. [Aahz 1994/11/02]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) banned this card from 1999/10/01 to 2005/08/01.
  • Note - Also see First Strike, Rule 502.2.

52. Drafna's Restoration

Sorcery U (1) Antiquities (Common)
Take any number of artifacts of your choice from target player's graveyard and place them on top of that player's library, in any order.
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.

53. Energy Flux

Enchantment 2U (3) Antiquities (Uncommon)
All artifacts in play now require an upkeep cost of {2} in addition to any other upkeep costs they may have. If the upkeep cost for an artifact is not paid, the artifact must be discarded.

54. Hurkyl's Recall

Instant 1U (2) Antiquities (Rare)
All artifacts in play owned by target player are returned to that player's hand. Any enchantments on those artifacts are discarded. Cannot be played during the damage-dealing phase of an attack.
  • Retrieves all artifacts owned by the target player regardless of who controls them. Ignores artifacts owned by other players even if target player has control of them. [D'Angelo 1994/06/01]
  • It only returns artifacts which are in play. [D'Angelo 2000/03/03]
  • Vintage tournaments (see Rule 801) restricted this card from 1999/10/01 until 2003/04/01.
  • Legacy tournaments (see Rule 802) banned this card from 1999/10/01 until 2003/04/01.

55. Power Artifact

Enchant Artifact UU (2) Antiquities (Uncommon)
The activation cost of target artifact is reduced by {2}. If this would reduce target artifact's activation cost below {1}, target artifact's activation cost becomes {1}. Power Artifact has no effect on artifacts that have no activation cost or whose activation cost is {0}.
  • Can be placed on artifacts with no or zero activation costs, but this has no effect on them. It does not increase the cost to one. [bethmo 1994/06/01]
  • For artifacts with an X use cost (such as the Candelabra of Tawnos or Ice Cauldron) this reduces the amount spent by {2} to a minimum of {1}. [WotC Rules Team 1995/09/22] If you choose X to be zero, you have to still pay {1}. Power Artifact lets you pay the greater of 1 or X-2. [Aahz 1995/09/29]
  • Only affects the generic mana part of activation costs. Colored parts of mana costs are not affected. This rule comes into play if a card like the Northern Paladin gets changed into an artifact by Ashnod's Transmogrant. [D'Angelo 1994/08/01]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - Also see Aura, Rule G1.30.

  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) banned this card until 2003/09/01.
  • Note - This card was creature type "Sage" until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Human Artificer".

58. Transmute Artifact

Sorcery UU (2) Antiquities (Uncommon)
Search through your library for one artifact and immediately place it into play; also, choose any artifact in play that you control and place it in its owner's graveyard. If the new artifact has a casting cost greater than that of the discarded one, you must pay the difference or Transmute Artifact fails and both artifacts are discarded. Shuffle your library after playing this card.
  • If the chosen artifact costs less than or the same as the sacrificed artifact, you simply put it into play without paying any additional costs. [D'Angelo 2000/02/25]
  • The sacrifice of an artifact is part of the play cost of this spell and it is done when announcing the spell. [D'Angelo 1999/02/04]
  • You cannot sacrifice more than one artifact to this spell. [D'Angelo 1999/02/04]
  • Additional mana spent to cover the differences in mana costs is not part of the mana cost of this spell for Spell Blast or any other reasons. It is spent during spell resolution. [D'Angelo 1998/02/03]
  • The one from the library enters play when the spell is resolved, and this does not count as the playing of an artifact (for Citanul Druid or anything else). [bethmo 1994/06/01]
  • If your search does not find an artifact, then you do not get the original artifact back. [D'Angelo 2001/07/14]
  • You do not have to find an artifact card if you do not want to. See Rule G19.4. [D'Angelo 2001/07/14]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.

  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.
  • Note - This card was creature type "Gaea's-Avenger" until Oracle 2007/10/01, when it became "Treefolk".

64. Powerleech

Enchantment GG (2) Antiquities (Uncommon)
Gain 1 life whenever one of opponent's artifacts becomes tapped, or whenever the activation cost of one of opponent's artifacts is paid. Is not triggered by continuous artifacts.
  • In a multi-player game it affects all opponents. [D'Angelo 2000/02/25]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have always banned this card.

65. Titania's Song

Enchantment 3G (4) Antiquities (Uncommon)
All non-creature artifacts lose all their usual abilities and become artifact creatures with toughness and power each equal to their casting costs. If Titania's Song leaves play, artifacts return to normal just before the untap phase of the next turn.
  • The "this effect continues until end of turn" applies to the entire continuous ability, so that if a new non-creature artifact entered play after this left play, it would become a creature as per the ability. [D'Angelo 2008/04/19]
  • Note - Also see Converted Mana Cost, Rule G3.29.

66. Mishra's Factory

Land Antiquities (Uncommon)

  • When animated into an Assembly-Worker, it has creature type Assembly-Worker. [D'Angelo 2001/08/31]
  • The card name does not change. It remains "Mishra's Factory". [Jordan 2003/06/14]
  • The Assembly-Worker is an artifact creature only until the end of the turn, and then any Enchant Creature or Enchant Artifact spells on it are put into the graveyard. [Duelist Magazine #2, Page 15]
  • It can attack on the turn an Assembly-Worker is created, but it may not attack on the turn the land itself is brought into play. See Rule G19.39. [Duelist Magazine #2, Page 15]
  • Any counters on the Assembly-Worker remain even if the counters stop being meaningful when it de-animates. [D'Angelo 1998/02/03]
  • Tapping a land for something other than mana is not a mana ability. [D'Angelo 1999/10/01]
  • When it is an Assembly-Worker, it is an artifact and can therefore be affected by spells and abilities that affect artifacts, such as Disenchant. [WotC Rules Team 1995/02/09]
  • If another player takes control of this card while it is an Assembly-Worker, using Aladdin for example, that player keeps control until the control effect ends. They do not lose control just because the card stops being an Assembly-Worker. [WotC Rules Team 1995/02/09] Note that enchantments which steal cards (such as Control Magic and Steal Artifact) do go to the graveyard if the permanent they enchant is no longer valid.
  • If an Assembly-Worker is changed to another land type by something like Phantasmal Terrain, it will stay a 2/2 artifact creature and keep the creature type "Assembly-Worker" (until end of turn), but it will change its land type as directed. [Jordan 2003/06/14]
  • Extended tournaments (see Rule 803) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.

Otherwise, draw another card from your library. You can only use this ability once for each time you cast an artifact.
  • This card's ability targets an artifact spell on the stack. You can't play the ability unless you have an artifact spell you control on the stack to target. It does not target permanents in play. [D'Angelo 2006/08/24]
