Doubling Season Doubling Season English

Enchantment, 4G (5)

If an effect would create one or more tokens under your control, it creates twice that many of those tokens instead.

If an effect would put one or more counters on a permanent you control, it puts twice that many of those counters on that permanent instead.

Illus. Chuck Lukacs

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 10/1/2005: The tokens and counters that Doubling Season creates are exact copies of the kind of tokens and counters that were being created in the first place.
  • 10/1/2005: Doubling Season affects cards that “enter the battlefield with” a certain number of counters. Triskelion, for example, would enter the battlefield with six +1/+1 counters on it rather than three.
  • 10/1/2005: If there are two Doubling Seasons on the battlefield, then the number of tokens or counters is four times the original number. If there are three on the battlefield, then the number of tokens or counters is eight times the original number, and so on.
  • 10/1/2005: Planeswalkers will enter the battlefield with double the normal amount of loyalty counters. However, if you activate an ability whose cost has you put loyalty counters on a planeswalker, the number you put on isn’t doubled. This is because those counters are put on as a cost, not as an effect.

  • 9/20/2013: At the beginning of every end step, regardless of whose turn it is, the second ability triggers. When it resolves every creature that could have been declared as an attacker during that turn’s Declare Attackers Step but wasn’t will be destroyed.
  • 9/20/2013: A creature won’t be destroyed if it was unable to attack that turn, even if you had a way to enable it to attack. For example, a creature that had summoning sickness wouldn’t be destroyed even if you had a way to give it haste.

Illus. Christine Choi

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 4/8/2016: The phrase “different converted mana costs” compares the mana costs of cards in your graveyard to one another, not to Seasons Past. You may return a card with a converted mana cost of 6.

Sekki, Seasons' Guide Sekki, Seasons' Guide English

Legendary Creature — Spirit 0/0, 5GGG (8)

Sekki, Seasons' Guide enters the battlefield with eight +1/+1 counters on it.

If damage would be dealt to Sekki, prevent that damage, remove that many +1/+1 counters from Sekki, and create that many 1/1 colorless Spirit creature tokens.

Sacrifice eight Spirits: Return Sekki from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Illus. Kev Walker

Gatherer Card Rulings?, Legality?

  • 6/1/2005: Damage that can’t be prevented still causes counters to be removed from Sekki and puts creature tokens onto the battlefield.
  • 6/1/2005: Creature tokens are put onto the battlefield even if there are no more +1/+1 counters to remove. For example, attempting to deal 9 damage to Sekki causes its replacement effect to 1) prevent the 9 damage, 2) remove all eight of the +1/+1 counters, and 3) put nine Spirit creature tokens onto the battlefield.
  • 6/1/2005: Increasing Sekki’s toughness with a card like Indomitable Will allows Sekki to prevent damage and make tokens even it if has no +1/+1 counters to be removed.
  • 8/1/2005: You can sacrifice any eight Spirits to pay for Sekki’s activated ability, not just the Spirit creature tokens.
